Nancy Ramirez Alvarez, PhD

My experience on research in the area of environmental pollution is about 20 years, in which I have carried out the implementation and application of different techniques of extraction and analysis of organic and inorganic pollutants, such as: pesticides, hydrocarbons, heavy-metals and such as: pesticides, hydrocarbons, heavy-metals and polychlorinated biphenyls, that also, are widely used in different research projects in which I have participated as a collaborator.

As well, I have acquired a lot of experience in the use of many analytical equipment such as: gas chromatographs coupled to different types of detectors (FID, ECD, MS and MS / MS), atomic absorption equipment and elemental analyzers, etc.

In addition, I have participated to the formation of human resources in postgraduate and graduate of the Faculty of Marine Sciences through the teaching of classes in both programs since 2004 and 2011 respectively, also by means of participation in being synodal at undergraduate and post-graduate level, and furthermore through the delivery of specialized courses in many topics.

I made the project named "Microplastics: a new source of toxic compounds in the Bay of Todos Santos, Ensenada, B.C. Mexico (PRODEP 2016)" Research that generated knowledge on the role of the plastic of marine waste in the accumulation of toxic materials.

The general objective was to study the impact of plastic waste in the bay by analyzing the type of synthetic polymers present and their adsorption capacity of PBDEs and PAHs in water and superficial sediment, as well as to evaluate the environmental impact to the marine way of the discharges of plants of treatment and of the creeks towards the coastal zone.

I have given courses Selected Topics of Pollution, Selected Topics in Analytical Chemistry I and II) from 2004 to date, as well as at the degree level since the 2011, with the course of "Seminar for certification", belonging to the program of licentiate in Biotechnology in Aquaculture, Faculty of Marine Sciences.

Also, I have been the coordinating committee and instructor of the training course of “gas Chromatography”.

It is necessary to mention that I have participated, received and supported in the training of students in the programs of summers scientists of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the University Juarez Autonoma de Tabasco (UJTA) since 2016.
